For everyone who isn’t aware, which includes me until this morning, there were rumors going around that the China Glaze Hunger Games collection wouldn’t be released due to a lawsuit. I am kicking myself that I never knew about this rumor since I’m in law school and study law suits all day long 6 days a week, I’m a nail polish junkie and I am a huge fan of the book series. After hearing rumors this morning that the collection has been reborn, I had to do my homework to figure out what happened.
Reports on MSNBC said that Lionsgate Films, the company behind the movie, terminated the contract signed with American International Industries, aka China Glaze, for breach of contract. 3 weeks after signing the contract, both parties were excited and news broke of the upcoming collection. Promotional materials leaked all over the internet and nail polish bloggers went wild, myself included. Lionsgate sited the news leak as the basis for terminating the contract with American International Industries. American International Industries in turn sued Lionsgate for ” “millions of dollars of materials,” “millions of dollars in lost profits,” as well as “substantial damages to American’s reputation and goodwill,” according to a complaint filed on November 23 in the Los Angeles Superior Court (quotes came directly from msnbc.msn.com).
But according to a new report that came out today, the collection is back on! Although MSNBC reported that there was no mention of the lawsuit, if the collection is back on along with a few changes in the collection, I’m assuming that both sides came to a legal agreement. The colors of the collection haven’t changed but the names definition have!
As you can see, the colors haven’t changed from the old collection but the names and the theme have. The colors in the old promotional images show that the colors were named after characters. The new collection is 12 colors based on the 12 districts and I’m assuming that this would be a collection that would be released in the Capitol (for all of you who have read the books). Break down of the colors.
Luxe and Lush (formerly Flaming Gems) – District 1 (Luxury)
Stone Cold (formerly Joined at the Seam) – District 2 (Masonry)
Riveting (formerly Fire in Flight) – District 3 (Technology)
Hook and Line (formerly Coal Hearted) – District 4 (Fishing)
Electrify (formerly Heat of the Moment) – District 5 (Power)
Fast Track (formerly Catnip) – District 6 (Transportation)
Mahogany Magic (formerly Baker’s Son) – District 7 (Lumber)
Dress Me Up (formerly Primrose) – District 8 (Textiles)
Harvest Moon (formerly Cinna-mon)– District 9 (Grain)
Foie Gras (formerly Rebel) – District 10 (Livestock)
Agro (formerly We Could Run Away) – District 11 (Agriculture)
Smoke and Ashes (formerly Fight to the Finish) – District 12 (Mining)
Personally, there are certain name changes that I’m not too thrilled about and others that I think fit better. Personally, Primrose is a better name than Dress Me Up for a dusty rose color, Cinna-mon is better than Harvest Moon and Joined at the Seam is better than Stone Cold. But I like the rest of them, especially the change to Foie Gras from Rebel, Agro from We Could Run Away and Smoke and Ashes from Fight to the Finish. I haven’t changed my mind about picking up almost all of the colors and am officially excited again! And now that I have a release date to put on my calendar I’m even more excited. The movie is set to be released on March 23, 2012, and this collection will hit stores March 1, 2012. This gives me 3 weeks to hunt down this collection wear every color and come up with the coolest manicure to go see the midnight showing.
