I haven’t done a jelly sandwich manicure in a few months. I did my first jelly sandwich that I thought turned out amazing and I completely fell in love with the concept. If you want to see that manicure, you can click here! I attempted to do about 3 more right after that manicure, but none turned out that great. Needless to say, I didn’t post them because they weren’t worth sharing. One of the ones that I tried I used OPI “Here Today … Aragon Tomorrow.” This is one of my favorite dark colors and I use it quite often in the winter. Its a dark murky forest green jelly. Its one of those colors that looks black in most lights until you hit direct sunlight and its the most beautiful dark green. What I love about this polish and the picture doesn’t show is just how squishy this polish is. I should have washed my hands before taking this picture because it looks like there’s some lotion on my finger tips. This is 2 coats and its completely opaque.
For all of you who don’t know what a “Jelly Sandwich” is, its when you paint a base color, then a layer of glitter, then paint a sheer color over top of the glitter. The result is a really cool dimensional look that I can’t get enough of. But the last time I used Here Today Aragon Tomorrow, I didn’t use it as the top layer color over the glitter. I was scared it would be too dark since its such a pigmented polish. So I used a sheer green and it turned out really awful. I decided to try it again, but this time use the same base polish. I used 2 coats of OPI “Here Today … Aragon Tomorrow”, 1 coat of “Sephora by OPI “Flurry Up” (a silver chunky top coat) and then 1 coat of the OPI again. The result? Amazing dark green murky green glittery fun-ness. I really love the result and really didn’t want to take it off. I wish I had more jelly finish polishes to come up with really cool combinations.
What do you guys think? Have any of you ever tried a jelly sandwich?? And if you have, what colors did you use? I’m looking for some new ideas!
very cool! I’ve been wanting to try a jelly sandwich!
