Urban Decay Urban Defense Tinted Moisturizer Review!

I bought this about a year ago off HauteLook.  For all of you who don’t know what HauteLook is, although I’m sure you all do, it is a flash sale website that sells clothes, makeup, home decor, shoes, jewelry and other girly stuff.  I get the emails every day and go on there every once in a while.  I picked this up because at the time I really loved wearing tinted moisturizer and wanted to stock up.  This was listed as a light medium and then when I got it, it was so dark that I was never able to wear it.  I started using it as a mixing agent about 2 months ago once the summer sun went into full effect and I gradually began to get tan.  Now, I can finally use this product on its own and give you guys a proper review.

The product comes out of a pump style applicator, which I personally love.  While I don’t have a big problem with acne or break outs, I am very weary of bacteria in my makeup.  Its another reason why I don’t like to own a large quantity of makeup, because makeup goes bad, break down and can grow bacteria which actually irritate your skin and make anything you’re trying to hide with makeup, look worse once its off.  So any type of applicator is more hygienic, like a pump style, is right up my ally.

The product itself is closer to a medium shade than a light medium.  The consistency is a little on the thin side once it spreads across the skin.  You wouldn’t be able to tell from the picture, but once you try to spread it on your face it is pretty thin and watery.  This is a super light coverage tinted moisturizer.  I haven’t tried too many to really say how this compares in coverage, but from the ones that I have tried this is by far the lightest coverage.

Without a flash, no powder but with mascara and an eyebrow highlight

With a flash

As you can see, this is more of a dewy finish. I always wear a powder, but I didn’t for the sake of this post so you guys can see how it really looks on the skin.  It is really really easy to blend and I have found that its easiest to apply with my fingers.  It is blendable but not a ton so you are still only going to get a light, maybe light to medium coverage.  Downside, it takes a little bit to sink into the skin. But once it does, it stays put for a good 6-8 hours before I see it fading.

Overall, I really like this but it is really sheer, as you can see that it didn’t cover up the scratch on my cheek in the second picture.  I like mixing this with a BB cream for a little extra coverage but on the days where I don’t have any problems with my skin I’ll go with just this.  If you have perfect skin, this is a really nice product.  If not, then this isn’t enough coverage.  Plus it has SPF 20. On a side note that really worried me when I first bought this is that the 4th ingredient in it is oil.  I don’t know if that is normal for a tinted moisturizer because I don’t have any more in my collection now.  I was a tad hesitant to put something with oil on my face but I haven’t had any issues with this breaking me out.  I see this on Hautelook still so I know you can pick it up for cheap if you’re interested.

Grade: B

Price: $6 on Hautelook, but I think its $18 at Sephora
