Maybelline Color Show “Twilight Rays”

A few months ago, Maybelline released a new line of nail polishes called the Color Show nail polish line.  I have to admit, I have never once tried a Maybelline nail polish.  I don’t know if it was the color selection or the packaging but I always passed over the Maybelline polishes.  Even when I first saw the Color Show line, I wasn’t interested in the slightest.  Then I saw Scrangie’s swatches of this polish, and I was immediately hooked.  It became my mission to snatch up this polish because in my eyes it was something that was so different than anything that I owned.  Over the years I have owned a ton of blacks with some color flecks inside.  I’ve had black with silver, pink, blue, red, magenta and probably a ton more, but I’ve never owned black and gold.  So I had to get this polish.

Maybelline Color Show “Twilight Rays” is a black base with micro gold flecks in it.  The color went on really easily.  It was completely opaque in 2 coats and dried pretty quickly.  I was actually shocked just how fast it dried, maybe because the last few polishes I’ve tried had slower dry times, or because I was drinking a glass of wine and time seemed to move a little faster (or I was moving slower).   I loved this polish, especially since I put it on right after wearing Butter London “Gobsmacked”.  The formula seemed light years better in comparison, which I think might be influencing my opinion of this polish.

The one thing I hated about this polish was the brush.  The brush fanned out nicely but the handle sucked.  It is very similar to the Nails Inc handles where its big and bulky and hard to maneuver.  It was hard to hold and I found that I could twist the brush to grab more product like I can with other brushes.  Other than the brush, I loved this polish and it might be one of my favorite black base polishes.  Plus for $4.99 at the drugstore, you can’t beat it.

What do you guys think? Have any of you tried the Maybelline Color Show line? Do you have any Maybelline polishes?

  1. I have the basic black and white from this line for nail art, as well as two of the limited edition ones, Avante Green and Boho Gold. They aren’t very opaque, but I love Avante Green, and it is now one of my favorite greens.

  2. Good for the winter i think! I dont know why we dont have these colours in holland lol. I think we only have the regulair ones
