Josie Maran Argan Oil Review

Do any of you get sucked in by the hype of certain products?  I try not to, but every now and then my curiosity gets the better of me.  A few months ago I was at Sephora, probably buying something I didn’t need.  At the checkout, the girl said I had some insane number of points and showed me my options for 100 and 500 point perks.  The reason I have so many points is because I only sample things that I really want to try.  Well, this time, the Josie Maran 100% Argan Oil was a 100 point perk.  I have heard amazing things about this product so I figured I would give this a shot.  And I’m both happy and sad to report, that this product lives up to the hype!  Although, my wallet hates that I am admitting that.

From Sephora:

This 100% Pure Argan Oil is a legendary oil that’s rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, and grown organically in Morocco. With its multitasking benefits, Argan Oil can be used for many areas including hydrating and nourishing skin, as a daily moisturizer, skin treatment, treating spilt ends, and softening cuticles. It’s gentle enough to use on all skin types and is believed to help with skin conditions including acne. Argan Oil easily absorbs into skin to give you a youthful, dewy glow, and has astonishing healing, conditioning, and antiaging properties to keep your skin and hair nourished and revitalized and to keep you looking beautiful from head to toe.

This product is clinically proven to improve skin hydration and skin elasticity after only four weeks. In just four weeks: Participants saw a visible reduction in coarse wrinkles and fine lines in the eye area, and more than 83% of women showed significantly improved skin hydration.

I’ll admit, when I first tried this out I was both extremely skeptical and had many apprehensions.  Putting 100% pure oil on my face? I don’t have extremely acne prone skin but at the same time I didn’t know how my skin would react to pure oil.  But I found that this is a very dry oil and sinks in very quickly.

How I use this product:  I squeeze the top of the applicator, so the dropper is about half way filled with oil.  I put the oil on my finger tips and then touch the 4 high points of my face, top of both cheeks, forehead and chin.  I then rub the product into my face, taking special care around the outer corners of my eyes, where I have smile lines.  I use this right after cleansing my face at night as my night time moisturizer.

What I like:  I like how quickly this sinks into my skin.  2 to 3 minutes after application this product is sunk into my skin and I don’t have any oily residue left.  I also like that this doesn’t make my skin oily at all in the morning.  Sometimes a moisturizer is a little bit too heavy, so when I wake up in the morning my forehead is a little oily.  This just leaves my skin feeling hydrated and extremely healthy.  I absolutely love how it makes my skin feel in the morning, and I swear I almost wake up with a glow to my skin.  Also, I haven’t broken out at all!

What I don’t like: This first one might seem really odd, but this product doesn’t have a smell.  That is so weird to me.  It honestly doesn’t have a smell at all! If it does I can’t smell it.  My biggest complaint, and this might not really be a complaint, is that I have a hard time figuring out how much product to use.  I use half a dropper right now, but I feel like I’m tugging at my skin to make sure my entire face is covered. I tried experimenting with different amounts but I found that a full dropper is too much, and anything less than half isn’t enough.  Plus I hesitate using more than half a dropper because this product is so freaking expensive!

Overall, I really really really like this product.  There are just 2 things holding me back from loving this product and one of those may change the more I use it.  I don’t like how expensive this product is and I also haven’t seen the advantages that this product claims to give.  I don’t see a reduction in my fine lines, nor is my skin extraordinarily hydrated.  But, I got the sample size and it has lasted me all summer and I haven’t admit I haven’t diligent in using it every single night.  Other than the price and the claims, I really like this as a night time moisturizer and might have to pick up a bigger bottle when I out of this one.  If the sample size has lasted me 3 months, imagine how long a full size would last.

Grade: A-

Price: $14 for the 0.5 oz, $48 for the 1.7 oz and $96 for the 4.0 oz

  1. Great review!! I, too, have been debating trying this as I love Argan oil for my hair, but the hair products are not pure and though great, don’t do anything phenomenal either. Love your honest feedback 🙂

    • awww thanks! i love Moroccan oil on my hair but haven’t tried argan oil. i might have to try that once my bottle is gone. but i dunno if all those products really worth the miracles that people claim they do, or at least not on me. but they’re still really nice
