I’m slowly but surely making my way through my massive pile of un-tried polishes. When Zoya had their most recent sale, I had 5 polishes that I knew I had to have. So I had to come up with my free polish, since it was buy one get one free, and 6 polishes would mean I got free shipping. This polish had been on my mind for a little while, ever since Zenorah recommended it to me. When I asked her last April what her all time favorite Zoya’s were, this was one of the first polishes that she blurted out that I had to try. I think her exact words were, “I know you love black and red, so you have to own this polish. You’ll absolutely love it!” Well, I should know by now to completely trust anything Zenorah is going to tell me because she’s never steered me wrong. And I think she knows me too well!
Zoya “Isla” is a dark red metallic shade. This polish seriously just jumps off my nails and seems like the perfect winter red color. I have to say I’m normally not a huge fan of these types of finishes, but this polish looks like red foil wrapping paper to me. When I first saw this polish in real life I thought it was a dupe for Butter London “Knees Up”, which is my all time favorite holiday red or metallic red polish. Well its definitely not a dupe! Its more like Knees Up’s darker and sexier sister.
At first, I couldn’t understand why Zenorah would say if I like red and black nails, I’ll love this. But after applying it, I completely understand! It almost has a black duochrome! I tried so hard to get good pictures of it but just looking at your nails, it looks like the edges of your nails are black. I can’t even describe it, but check out this swatch because she captured the color a lot better than I did!
The formula on this polish was really great too. This is 2 coats in the pictures and it went on very smooth. The consistency was a little on the thin side, which made a little bit of a mess on some of my cuticles, but it was very minimal. I would rather have a formula that is too thin but really pigmented than one that’s thick and sheer! Dry time was relatively fast as well. There was a small amount of streaking, as you can see from the picture on the left on the middle finger, but its only visible when the light hits the perfect angle of my 1 nail. Other than that, this polish is a great one.
If you’re a fan of red nails and metallic finish polishes, this is a great one to have in your collection. Thank you Zenorah for another great recommendation! I just need to let you pick out all of my polishes from now on.
What do you guys think? Do any of you have this polish? What are some of your favorite reds?
