As a lot of you know if you’ve been following my blog for a while, I’m not a nail art kind of girl. I’m awful at nail art and really don’t ever attempt to do anything beyond a water marble or a cool french. But I want to branch out a little, so I’m going out of my comfort zone and trying a month long nail art challenge! ince I’m such a huge Halloween fanatic, I thought this would be perfect for me. Also, I’m going to say that it is fate that this challenge is going on and the zombie day coincides with “The Walking Dead” season 3 premiere. Bec at Lacquer Dreams came up with this challenge and I’m going to try my hardest to get creative with some of these days!
DAY 1: Horror Movies!
I’m a huge horror movie fanatic! Seriously I can’t even describe how much I love horror movies. I drive my boyfriend absolutely crazy with the straight to DVD horror movies that I watch non-stop on the Chiller Channel. From the end of September to the end of October I go to about 6 or 7 haunted houses. I do Halloween costume makeup for fun in my spare time and have YouTube Halloween tutorial marathons. I love carving pumpkins, baking pumpkin pies and buckeyes (its an Ohio thing). If I had an ugly Halloween sweater like the kind that my elementary school teachers had back in the 90s, I’d be basically living in it throughout the month. I think I have a problem!
Anyways, so the first challenge was about Horror Movies so I knew I had to recreate my Splatter Nails from last Halloween! That is still my most watched nail tutorial of all time and I still get comments every week on that video (a year later).
Sorry the cuticles are so messy! Whenever I do this with red polish it stains and I can’t clean it up very well! Oh well, I’m just telling myself it adds to the looks.
Keep reading for the colors I used, how I did it and more pictures!
I used Julep “Kate” for the white base. Then I used Julep “Delaunay” for the bright red and OPI “Mrs. O’Leary’s BBQ” for the dark red.
I did the Splatter technique, where you take a straw dip it in polish and then blow into the clean end over your nail. For a more detailed video on how I did it, my tutorial from last Halloween is below!
I knew I was going to do blood spatter to start this nail art challenge off! There are so many horror movies that I watch that have a ton of blood so I thought blood spatter was perfect to get in the Halloween mood. Plus I spent all day on Friday watching the Saw movies, 1 through 4. And then after watching the Dexter premiere last night, I think I had blood on the brain!
What do you guys think? Are any of you doing this challenge? Would any of you consider doing this as well? What are your favorite Horror Movies!?
