We are about a week and a half away from Halloween and a week away from the weekend before Halloween, so I’m taking a break from featuring all of my new polishes and going into some of my Halloween polishes. Here, we are celebrating most of the Halloween festivities the weekend before, so needless to say, Halloween is on my mind. I went costume shopping with my best friend this morning and now have totally crossed that line to Halloween mega nerd. After doing my Bat nails yesterday and failing miserably, I needed a manicure to cheer me up. I thought back to how much I loved the zombie manicure from the monday before, so I decided to revisit one of my favorite green polishes of all time, and coincidentally, a staple Halloween polish.
This polish was super limited edition 2 years ago and I was lucky enough to find it in a clearance bin a few months after Halloween, and now I refused to wear it any time besides in the month of October. China Glaze “Zombie Zest” is a greenish brown murky base with a ton of olive green glass fleck shimmers in it. This polish almost has a duochrome like effect with all the glass flecks in it. It almost shimmers from a green to a teal. You can see that if you look at the bottom of the bottle in each of the pictures, and it does transfer to the nails slightly. I absolutely love this color! It is so murky and rotten-like but then all the glass fleck pieces in there really bring it to life. When you’re under indoor lighting, this polish seriously just glistens off your nails! Its like a glitter but is so smooth and easy to work with that it is like all the positives of a glitter with none of the work to remove it.
The formula for this polish is on the sheer side. This is 3 coats and on the third coat I tend to make it a little thicker than the first 2. If you’re a stickler for always doing really thin coats (the thinner the coat, the less chipping you get), then this might take you 4 cots to achieve full opacity. Dry time is also on the longer side.
With all the negatives to the formula aside, I love this polish and it is one of my staple Halloween polishes. I heard the Orly “It’s Not Rocket Science” is a dupe and I might have to pick that polish up and test it out, because I cherish this polish. I rarely wear it during the month of October, and never wear it other times of the year because I’m so worried that I’ll run out.
What do you guys think? Do any of you have this one or the Orly polish? Do you have any go-to Halloween polishes? And be prepared for a little bit of a Halloween polish spam over the next week and a half!
