First thing first, I owe you guys an apology! I hate going days without blogging. I haven’t blogged in 3 days and I already feel a little rusty. So I figured I would come back with a little bit of a bang and show another new holiday polish! When I first saw promotional pictures of the James Bond Skyfall collection from OPI, I wasn’t interested in this polish at all. I’m not the biggest fan of gold nails (I prefer silver and rose gold) so when I saw a gold foil I thought that it was typical for a holiday collection. Then when I saw swatches I was blown away! This is more than a typical gold foil! I don’t know what it is, if its the color of the composition, but I knew that this had to be my polish. I hunted it down and finally found it a few weeks ago. This is one of only 2 polishes that I picked up from the Skyfall collection and couldn’t be happier!
OPI “Golden Eye” is a gold flake in a clear base. Its definitely a very dense gold flake that looks like molten gold when you layer on the coats. Although this polish is rather opaque, I think you could wear it over a dark polish and it would show the flakes more prominently. I have to say, this polish is much different than I thought it was going to be. First, the color is a very orangey gold, almost brassy in a way. You could probably just call it a brass. I think this would look absolutely amazing on darker skin tones because of how orange it pulls. It is the perfect fall gold color. Even though I LOVE this color, it doesn’t completely love my skin tone back. I’ll wear it because I love it so much but I think that a more neutral gold would be a little more flattering.
I had a hard time capturing the color of this one too. My camera kept changing the tone of this polish so the pictures with the white blanket are more true to how it looks in real life. Considering the formula, this is where I have a few complaints. The dry time of this polish was awful! I haven’t really experienced an OPI polish that took this long to dry. I had to wait a good 7 minutes between coats before it was dry to the touch. Another negative with this polish is that it took a full 3 coats to get this opaque. Because its more of a flake than an opaque foil, it took some effort to get it opaque. There wasn’t any bald spots and the polish went on evenly, but applying this was not the most fun! Thank god I love the color or else I might neglect this polish.
What do you guys think? Do any of you have this polish? Did you experience a slow dry time? Do you have any other polishes from the Skyfall collection?
