Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains!

IMG_5481Again, I’m super late jumping on the band wagon.  Sometimes I don’t understand why I don’t try out certain products sooner, but I think my inner cynic comes out whenever a product has a lot of buzz around it.  I finally picked up some of the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains a few weeks ago after some gentle pushing by some friends on YouTube.

I held off for so long because I have several of the Tarte LipSurgences, which seem like a similar product.  I do really like the Tarte LipSurgences but I don’t find myself reaching for them as much as I did almost 2 years ago when I first discovered them.  I didn’t feel like I could justify a purchase of a similar product if I’m not using my existing products.  But after hearing again and again that others had the Tarte and Clinique versions of this product but preferred Revlon, I decided to give them a shot.

The packaging is similar to all of those other types of chunky pencil stains on the market, such as the Clinique Chubby Sticks and Tarte LipSurgence.  The outside is smooth plastic packaging and the product twists up.  The twist is the bottom silver part of the packaging.  I really like retractable type of products because these would be a nightmare if I had to sharpen them.

IMG_5483The two colors I purchased are Cherish and Smitten.  I picked up these two colors because it seemed as if they were some of the most popular colors in the range.  Cherish is a blue toned pink and Smitten is a dark berry pink. I know Smitten looks a little scary in the tube but I promise it isn’t!

From Revlon:

It’s a pampering balm fused with a lightweight lipstain in an adorable chubby crayon. Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain gives softer, smoother lips with a perfect flush of color that lasts hour after hour.
The gel formula  comes in 12 vibrant shades that match any look or mood.

What I like: The staying power! Wow I didn’t think these things would actually stain! These babies do really stain your lips and you’re stuck with whatever color you put on for a good 8 hours.  I did do some wear tests and I found that Smitten seemed to last longer, or appeared to last longer because its much darker than my natural lip color so I could see that it was still on my lips.  Also, the wear is very natural.  It doesn’t start to fade in the center and then after 4 hours you’re just left with a colored ring around the perimeter of your lips.  It gradually fades and looks very natural.  But that can also be a negative, if you like the color when you first apply it and then get sick of it half way through the day, you’re kind of stuck.  Another thing I really like is that these aren’t drying on your lips at all.  This might be a weird thing to like but I love that it goes on very glossy and smooth and then it dries and its on your lips.  I like that the glossy feeling and glossy appearance doesn’t stay for a long time because I like to apply chapstick throughout the day.

What I don’t like: I can’t think of anything I don’t like! Maybe the fact that Smitten stays longer than Cherish, but it could be because the lighter color appears to wear faster (simply because its lighter).  Cherish is noticeable on my lips for about 7 to 8 hours while Smitten is noticeable for longer.

I guess this review is self-explanatory.  I love these things! And I do like them more than the Tarte LipSurgence.  They really do stain, they stay all day, they’re affordable, they’re accessible, there is a good color range, and they’re really easy to apply.  No complaints!

  1. I have one of these in the color Honey. I want to try another because I don’t really like the one I have; it changes color on my lips to something quite different from the tube!
